How JD Bakeshop started:
The first public opening of JD Bakeshop took place in 1975. A different corporation then ran it but subsequently merged with the Diez Family. This intermarriage led to successful expansions that spread out in key strategic locations around the city. The change began in 1993 when JD Bakeshop merged with a fast food service that quickly garnered attention for serving high-quality food at a reasonable price. It developed into a staple restaurant for budget-conscious patrons, mostly students. As time passed, a new branch was located at Jaro, followed by another in Molo (Citadel); another was in front of St. Paul’s Hospital and then came the construction of the Grand Dame Hotel, which gave rise to the specialty eatery Emilion.
The new Emilion serves Filipino food that has been prepared and twisted in novel ways. Galunggong pasta, ginataang chicken, and a whole new range of foods prepared in a contemporary style are all on the menu. It also offers a function room with seating for 270–300 people divided into three zones for different functions. These rooms are designed to accommodate business meetings, conferences, corporate events, and bookings for any family gatherings.
It’s a well-known truth that many people want to franchise JD and Emilion in other locations outside the city. However, the Diez family politely declines offers since they persistently work on improving its facilities, products, and services to surpass consumers’ expectations.
