Over the years, Max’s Fried Chicken Restaurant popularity grew until it grew to be “the house that fried chicken built.” Since then, Max’s Restaurant has proved itself as a notable restaurant in the Philippines. With success in the country, Max’s has expanded to the U.S., bringing along Filipino staples such as their best-selling Whole Fried Chicken, Crispy Pata, and Kare-Kare.

From the variety of food items Max’s has to offer, here are five of Max’s menu items.

Our Top 5 Favorite Max's Menu Items:

Max's Fried Chicken

The restaurant’s iconic best-seller, the original classic whole Fried Chicken, made Max’s a Filipino favorite. With a special blend of secret spices, the chicken golden fried to perfection is definitely “Sarap-to-the-Bones.” You can get a half chicken for ₱ 330.00 or a whole one for ₱575.00.

Kare-Kare Rice Bowl

The restaurant’s Kare-Kare rice bowl featured the famous local stew made of beef chuck or beef slices and ox tripe with string beans and blanched native pechay, served with shrimp paste and a thick ground peanut sauce and paired with steamed rice. Truly a Filipino classic.

Crispy Pata

Get Max’s Crispy Pata— pork knuckle made the same way as their Fried Chicken— for only ₱884.00. This trademark Max’s dish is served with a soy-vinegar dipping sauce.

Pancit-Lumpia Cake

Max’s combined two of their celebratory dishes to create a new merienda feast: Lumpia and Pancit, forming a cake. The hefty serving of Pancit Canton is topped with a mix of chicken meat and balls, shrimps, sautéed vegetables, and topped with chopped spring onions. It is coupled with Lumpiang Shanghai and a variety of sides you can pick from.

Max’s Corner Bakery

The restaurant’s corner bakery offers an assortment of delicious baked goods; from caramel bars and cookies to bread and cake slices. Grab a box of their best-selling Caramel Bars for only ₱263.00.

How Max's started:

In 1945 after World War II, Maximo Gimenez made friends with the American troops stationed at Quezon City. Their friendship consists of the soldiers regularly visiting Gimenez’s home for drinks and insisted on paying for them. As a result, Gimenez opened a cafe for the troops to enjoy their drinks and food.

Initially, the cafe served steak, chicken, and beverages until Ruby, Gimenez’s niece, created a special chicken recipe that became an instant hit. Filipinos soon heard about the delicious tend-juicy, crispy chicken and frequented the cafe. With this, Max’s Restaurant came to be.

In the second quarter of 1998, Max’s Restaurant opened its doors to franchising. Over the years, it has expanded in Metro Manila, Northern and Southern Luzon, Cebu, and then to California and other U.S. states.
