Red Ribbon’s sweet story started with the goal of making each family celebration special with the addition of delectable and lovely cakes and has since grown from a homemaker’s pastime to a now professionally-run business.
Red Ribbon began as a hobby-driven business in 1979 and is proudly Filipino-owned. Customers would lovingly share the brand’s cakes at get-togethers regularly. It eventually evolved into orders from family members, who shared their joy with a larger circle of friends and relatives.
The hobby became a thriving business after the owners decorated the cake boxes with a red ribbon, its now iconic symbol. Hence, the brand name.
From the variety of food items Red Ribbon has to offer, here are five of

How Red Ribbon started:
Amalia Hizon Mercado and husband Renato Mercado, along with their five children, Ricky Mercado, Consuelo Tiutan, Renato Mercado, Teresita Moran, and Romy Mercado, opened Red Ribbon as a small cake shop on Timog Avenue in Quezon City in 1979. The cakes created by Red Ribbon’s daughter Teresita Moran are responsible for the company’s prominence in the Philippine dessert market.
What started as a hobby-driven business in Timog, Quezon City, in 1979 grew into a professionally managed, proudly Filipino-owned enterprise. Red Ribbon has expanded to over 480 stores worldwide.
Red Ribbon entered a new era in its history when Jollibee Foods Corporation acquired it in October 2005. The company quickly became one of the Philippines’ largest and fastest-growing bakeshops, and it has since been a piece of the Filipino family’s special moments and celebrations.
