Tropical Hut Philippine Cuisine has been serving the people of the Philippines since it was founded in 1965 and specialized in traditional Filipino cuisine.

Children of the 1980s and 1990s will recall Tropical Hut as a popular fast-food chain in the country, but it has since been eclipsed by more well-known names like McDonald’s and Jollibee and is largely overlooked by younger customers. Thankfully, it is still in existence, but there are now only a few significant branches left.

Tropical Hut has survived the test of time while remaining essentially unchanged over the years, still serving the same classic hamburgers and treats everyone remembers and loves.

From the variety of food items Tropical Hut has to offer, here are five of Tropical Hut menu items.

Our Top 5 Favorite Tropical Hut Menu Items:

1. Clubhouse Sandwich

Their Clubhouse sandwich, made with chicken, ham, cheese, and egg, is delicious and surprisingly inexpensive. The Clubhouse Sandwich costs ₱235.00 and is served with soda, fries, and a side of macaroni salad (another dish you should not overlook).

2. Hawaiian Glee

The Hawaiian Glee, a burger with a sweet pineapple slice on top, is among Tropical Hut’s most well-known creations. A huge slice of pineapple is added to the Hawaiian Glee to top off everything else that makes a Tropical Hut burger great.

3. Macaroni Salad

The delicious and economic portions of the macaroni salad at Tropical Hut could compete with KFC’s coleslaw. The macaroni salad they serve in cups combines the raisin and mayo sweetness that goes well with the carrot and pineapple bits. The key lies in the seasoning.

4. Spaghetti

Tropical Hut’s spaghetti comes with buttered, toasted bread. Order a solo of their sweet and meaty Filipino-style spaghetti for only ₱64.00.

5. Super Cheeseburger Classic

Nothing beats a classic, and the Super Cheeseburger Classic serves as the chain’s mascot and a wonderful introduction to the core values of Tropical Hut. They no longer make burgers like these, with a huge beef patty sandwiched in fluffy buns and a mountain of tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, and cheese.

How Tropical Hut started:

Tropical Hut opened in 1962 as a sari-sari shop, then quickly developed into a regular grocery store and, ultimately, a supermarket with a coffee shop. Due to its success during these years, the Tropical Hut Hamburger brand was established, and on February 26, 1965, the business was integrated into Tropical Hut Food Market, Inc.

The Mercury Group of Companies acquired the business in 1972, and it grew by opening additional branches all over Metro Manila. However, Tropical Hut had fallen out of favor over time as other fast food restaurants took center stage.

Stock analyst John Paul Tanyag posted on Twitter about his disappointment at being the only patron of the restaurant’s Escolta location and his longing for the establishment’s heyday on June 12, 2022. At about the same time, a different social media post from a Carmona, Cavite branch (which had since closed) was published in 2019 and went viral.

The domino effect and upsurge of interest in the fast-food chain caused by these and other social media posts prompted Filipinos to visit neighboring branches to check out the restaurant. After becoming popular on social media and riding a flood of memories, some branches even had to turn away customers because they couldn’t keep up with demand. This prompted Tropical Hut to hire more people and contemplate opening provincial branches to serve its customers better.
